My Interview for Interior Deluxe

INTERVIEW TEMENOUZHKA ZAHARIEVA By  Ingo Schaer Interior Deluxe talked to  Temenouzhka Zaharieva,  an Interior Designer from Sofia, about Living Room Lighting and How to create a good mood in your living space by using great lighting. Interior-Deluxe: What’s important to keep in mind when lighting a living room ? TZ: Lighting  is one  of the  most  exciting elements of interior design, and yet one that can still be neglected.  Especially by clients, mostly because they are not aware of the many possibilities that lighting can bring to the overall impact of a room – both, during the day when not switched on, but it can be a great accent piece with its design, and in the darkness of the night when we can create different moods just with the help of lighting. The old days of the single pendant light in the middle of the room are becoming a distant memory, a  g ood living room lighting  today  means a good mix of lighting for all the different  activities that we usually share

The Making Of: Patricia Urquiola's Tatou Series*

Patricia Urquiola with a piece of the Tatou shade in hands. Most design pieces by Patricia Urquiola are a beautiful fusion - between East and West, modern and ancient, art and crafts. No exception, Tatou is a new family of lamps she designed for Flos on the occasion of the 2012 London Design Festival. A close detail of Flos Tatou Table Lamp Initially, Urquiola was inspired by the architecture of an antique Samurai armour - a set of metal rings cleverly tied with ribbons. Samurai means warrior in Japanese, so the initial concept aimed to represent resistance and strength along with lightness and dynamism. It was a reference to the protective shell. “I was looking at modules of metal crossed with fiber and making a really powerful and emotional suspension lamp.” Patricia Urquiola's 'Tatou' collection of lamps has its UK launch at FLOS, Clerkenwell Photography: Sabine Zetteler The studies for Tatou's modular plates began with wood and metal - Urquiola firs

ART DECO -

Sebastian Herkner: Turning Tables*

"I don't want to create trendy products; my aim is to make companions for your whole life". Тhis  is how Sebastian Herkner explains his approach to work, which, in turn, explains his success. The young German is among the industry's most acclaimed designers these days. He launched his enormously successful Bell Table for the traditional company ClassiCon in 2012, but he has also collaborated with many of the top international furniture brands, including Moroso, Pulpo, De Vorm, and Nanoo. Share While he was still a product design student at the Offenbach University of Art and Design, Sebastian began to focus on designing objects and furniture which link different cultural contexts and combine new technologies with traditional methods of craftsmanship. His 2010 reddot design award winner Bell-Table is a prime example of this approach. A fascinating combination of materials and harmonious lines, it is a masterpiece of traditional craftsman’s art. Here is how Herkne

The Story of the Tip Ton Chair*

*This is a copy of my article published earlier on Clippings.com. D o you know what 'dynamic seating' means? It's what the Tip Ton chair offers. Its kinked bottom rail allows you to tilt it forward nine degrees and shift positions back and forth. Great news for your inner child, right! Indeed, the Tip Ton was originally conceived as a school chair by British design duo Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby for Swiss furniture manufacturer Vitra. Weighing only 4,5kg, it is made from polypropylene, a low-cost plastic that is 100% recyclable. It is stackable and makes very little noise when moved around. With so many requirements, it took more than two years of reserch and experiments to come to the final design. Ed Barber and Jay Osgerby in their London studio. Ed is sitting on two Tip Tons. London Design Festival*
